Monitoring Stations

Monitoring Stations

Here are some valid reasons where in-ground monitoring/baiting program may be the answer to protecting your home in Melbourne/Victoria. All the points below make your home vulnerable. Combining regular inspections with monitoring stations will reduce the risk of attack to your home or asset.
  • You may have experienced the wonder of termite flights every year particularly at the beginning of the warmer months. All those flying termites (Alates) are Kings and Queens exploring to establish a new colony, indicating there is a nest nearby, so where there is one nest, there are many!
  • Or you may have termite activity around your home e.g. In the garden, timbers or trees.
  • Or your home may have been attacked in the past, meaning that termite networks have been established and currently vacant, how ever a new colony may re-use the same network!
  • Areas of your home may be difficult or impossible to inspect.
Any of the above points would make it reasonable to say that Monitoring Stations would be beneficial to your home. Attempting to "intercept" a foraging colony next to your building gives you scope to control it before it gets there by baiting any of the infested stations, thereby eliminating the colony altogether.
Department of Health & Human Services, State Government of Victoria, Australia, quote that "Termite bait stations provide a means to collect samples for species identification, and monitor termite activity in addition to assisting in termite control. Baiting is often the best way to kill an attacking colony and it is commonly used where the main nest site(s) cannot be located."
